Love to Learn take to the seas!

During May half term Love to Learn took 14 children aged 14 – 17 to the UK Sailing Academy’s training centre in Cowes, on the Isle of Wight.

With generous funding from the Edmiston Foundation, these children participated in the UKSA Sea. Change Foundation residential programme, an educational project designed to build confidence and introduce young people to opportunities in the maritime industry.

In an intensive and fun packed week, they tried kayaking, paddle boarding, yachting, power boating, sea survival, dinghy sailing, keel boating and loads of other games and activities!

For most of the children, this was their first experience on water. Many of them are now interested in pursuing careers in the industry, for example:

Aarya is 17 and newly arrived to the UK from Sudan. She is living in supported accommodation and struggles with confidence and motivation. After visiting the UKSA, she is inspired by the possibility of training as a windsurf instructor. This has motivated her to improve her English and given her newfound confidence! An astonishing change after 5 days at sea!

A big thank you to the Edmiston Foundation and everyone at UKSA for a brilliant week.
