Glass Door winter shelters need your help

Unfortunately, this year we cannot run our Homeless Winter Shelter in partnership with Glass Door, St Mary’s Church and Sacred Heart Church because of the coronavirus social distancing restrictions in place. However, Glass Door is committed to finding ways to ensure that individuals in need can find safe shelter, a hot meal and a warm welcome. They will be putting guests up in 2 hotels in London and offering hot food and practical and emotional support 7 days/week, in 5 locations across London. One of those venues is Chelsea Methodist Church in the Kings Road. This is a short walk from Battersea Square, or a quick bus ride on the number 319, 49 or 19.

Volunteer

We have been asked by Glass Door if we could provide a team of volunteers to help provide a hot meal on Saturday evenings at Chelsea Methodist Church. Teams will be limited to six in number. So it should be possible to have a rota that means that we can continue to serve in this way no more than once a month, allowing for the fact that some of our volunteers last year won’t be available or won’t be able to take part because they are vulnerable or self-isolating. We urgently need you to volunteer.

If you would like to volunteer on a Saturday then sign up here. Once we know dates and also more details we will let you know.

Sleep in (or out)

On 2 October 2020, some of us will be joining Glass Door Homeless Charity’s Sleep In (or Out) to raise money to bring shelter and support to men and women affected by homelessness. St Mary’s Church is raising money for Glass Door because we know they are doing good work to support and shelter those in our community who are at an absolute crisis point. Glass Door welcomes everyone as their guest, giving them some stability before helping them make the necessary steps and move off the streets for good.

The target is £1500, which will fund one month’s accommodation for a homeless person in a hostel.

Please make a generous donation here.

And, do share this with family and friends on Facebook and Twitter – and beyond – so we can reach this target, and together we can bring more people in off the streets.

Thank you!
