Heritage – Memories of KLS 1935-1940

As our centenary approaches (2024) we’ve started reminiscing about what we’ve been up to over the last 98 years and counting. We’ve been looking back through our archives and found the following.

This is an article by George Colliety, who first came to the Settlement when he was 11 years old. He’s now 98! He’s always kept in touch, even today we have a natter every now and again. His time at KLS was formative, as well as fun, but it did have a significant impact on his life. Here’s George back in 2004 sharing some early memories from the 1930s.

Note: The picture above is of the Duke of Kent visiting the Settlement in 1938. Maybe George was there and met him. I’ll ask him next time we speak.
