Annabel, our Community Partnerships Manager, writes about another great initiative with our co-founder, Francis Holland School.
These days, as we all become ever more aware of the serious environmental impact of our clothes, Worldbank.org reports that the fashion industry is responsible for a shocking 10% of global greenhouse-gas emissions every year. With this in mind, Upper Sixth pupils Kayla Gal and Isabelle Samuels from Francis Holland School, Sloane Square, organised ‘The FHS Preloved Boutique’, in aid of Katherine Low Settlement. Tuesday afternoon saw the Sixth Form Centre at Francis Holland, transformed into a second-hand clothes store, with rails of clothing donated by parents, staff, independent fashion designers and two FHS alumna, Natalija Jovasevic and Zerafina Parbury. See more photos on FHS Flickr page.
The Boutique was extremely popular and remained open all week, with Sixth Form pupils getting exclusive access to the sale on Tuesday, and other year groups, including staff, following suit throughout the week. Happily, sales exceeded all expectations with £650 being raised, all of which will be donated to KLS. Thank you.
Emily and I were delighted to be invited to the opening of the store on Tuesday. We were so impressed by this initiative. It is great to see young people creating ingenious ways to help the community, whilst also helping the planet. Kayla and Isabelle are inspiring young women who saw a need, thought about a creative solution and just did it! Well done and thank you to the Kayla, Isabelle and the staff, parents and pupils of Francis Holland School.
