Arush settling into life in London

Arush* is a teenager from Afghanistan who arrived in October 2021 to seek safety and join his cousins in London. When he first arrived, he was struggling to get a school place nearby where he lived, where he could be provided with the correct support. His journey had been difficult and all he wanted was to continue his education in safety. Our casework team were able to support his family to get him a place at Southfields Academy, which provides excellent support for young people who do not speak English.

At our Youth Club Arush was able to meet young people from his country, so he could speak his own language and feel more settled. In his first month here, we went on a Youth Club trip to see the West End show Hamilton. He was riveted by the performance and continued to listen to the soundtrack for months after, even though he couldn’t understand a lot of the lyrics at that point. We were able to provide a laptop for his studies. Arush hasn’t missed a session of Club and is immersed in every activity.
