Volunteers

Why we want to work with volunteers
Love to Learn encourages people, especially people from refugee backgrounds, to get involved with our work through volunteering! Our current volunteers are a fabulous and diverse group of people who are doing high-quality work with families and children from refugee backgrounds. They tell us that they find the work very rewarding, and get back as much as they give. We offer full induction, training and supervision. Whenever possible, we will cover your basic costs (although this is subject to funding). Volunteers add loads of value to our work and allow us to work with more families and stretch our resources as far as we possibly can.

What do you need to volunteer?
We ask that volunteers can offer at least a time commitment of at least 6 months, that they can work in an anti-discriminatory way, and that they are enthusiastic, reliable and committed to our objectives and ethos. Skills and experience are very helpful, but not always necessary as we do provide training. It is more important that you have the potential to work creatively, sensitively and constructively with people. All volunteers require a full DBS check, which we can support you in obtaining. Please be aware that DBS checks can take 6 weeks or longer to process, which can mean that you may have to wait for a period before starting your volunteering. We also require two references.

What kind of volunteering can you do?
Love to learn currently has three volunteering programmes – Learning Mentors, Wednesday Club Helpers and Casework Volunteers. For more information on each, and to download application forms, please click on the relevant link. If you have other skills to offer (e.g. ESOL teaching, administration, social media and website etc.) please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 02075850339.

Support our family

We are committed to building stronger communities and enabling people to challenge themselves and find ways out of isolation through our varied community projects. There are so many ways you can support our work and help us to deliver our services to even more people.
