Welcome Afghan refugees to Wandsworth – sign the petition

We’ve all been greatly concerned about the situation in Afghanistan as it’s unfolded over the last week. There is one small action we can all take and that is to welcome Afghan refugees into the borough. To give them that safe haven. Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees (WWR) has set up a petition to ask Wandsworth Council to take in and support as many Afghan refugees as possible.

Please sign the petition here

In addition to signing the petition could you write to the Prime Minister and Home Secretary indicating Wandsworth’s support for the establishment of the refugee settlement programme for Afghans fleeing persecution.

You can email your MP about it here and your local Councillors here.

WWR, other local refugee charities in the area and our three MPs are calling on the Council to work with us to take in as many Afghan refugees as possible. We will use the petition to show Leader of the Council, Cllr Ravi Govindia, how much local people support this – so please sign and share.

The situation in Afghanistan is beyond heart-breaking. We must not turn our backs on the people of Afghanistan. We cannot allow the hard-won rights of women and girls to evaporate overnight, nor should we abandon the brave people and their families who risked their lives to help our armed forces. The Government must take steps to ensure aid can reach those in need to prevent further human suffering.”

Fleur Anderson, MP for Putney (and ex-KLS member of staff).

Please sign and share – it really does make a difference.

Thank you.
