This March we held our Love to Learn Spring Careers Fair for young people aged 14+. We held the Fair here at our base in Battersea to give them an opportunity to look at different career paths and professional opportunities.
We had a range of guest speakers from science, sports, law, medicine, and finance through to hospitality and the arts, including Nando’s, Queen Mary’s School of Law, NHS, Wimbledon Tennis. We also other professionals who had worked for companies such as Twitter, as well as entrepreneurs who had set up their own businesses.
Our volunteers and outreach workers were on hand to encourage each young person to use the opportunity to develop their confidence, practice talking about themselves, speak to different professionals and think about what problems in the world they would like to solve in the future through their careers. A different approach to the more traditional question that careers fairs usual ask, ‘what do you want to do when you grow up?’.
The evening was a great success with over 50 young people attending and our guest speakers impressed everyone with their passion and enthusiasm. They are excited about coming back for our next one in September.
“ It was such a good evening. I had so many interesting conversations and met some really interesting people. So much more fun than anything we have at school!”
Quote from a young person
“Just wanted to ‘shout out’ for this evening for doing such an amazing job of the careers fair. I am on my way home now I spoke to so many inspiring young people who all wanted to be the NHS doctors, nurses and psychologist of the future. I am always blown away by the phenomenal work that happens in that building !!”
