Battersea Corona Virus Angels – Update (05Dec20)

Canon Simon Butler, Vicar of St Mary’s Battersea (and a trustee of KLS), has just written an update to the Coronavirus Angels volunteers. As we’re a partner in this group we thought we would reproduce it here.

Friends,

Although it’s been quiet in this second lockdown, we are very grateful to everyone who has volunteered, even if it has not been necessary to call on you.

However, as we approach what will be a very strange Christmas for many, a number of opportunities have emerged through which you might be able and willing to help your local community.

St Mary’s are putting on a community ‘Christmas Fayre’ over the weekend before Christmas (19-20 Dec)
This will be a wonderful opportunity to bring people safely together in a Covid-secure outdoor space for some last-minute Christmas shopping, a relaxed drink and entertainment for all ages. It will be on Saturday and Sunday 19th-20th December and will involve local traders offering food, produce, gifts, music and a bar. There is very little else going on in the area this year, so we at St Mary’s are keen to offer something for everyone – all faiths and none. Any profits will go to helping local people in need not to church funds.

To do this we need loads of volunteers to give up a bit of time some time on the Saturday and/or the Sunday plus some help with dropping of flyers through doors in the week leading up to the 19th December. If you would like to volunteer in some way, please click here and we will be in touch soon. Let’s give our community something to brighten the darkest days of the year!

Could you help deliver gifts to local Children?
Katherine Low Settlement’s Love to Learn project provide a range of educational services and support for more than 200 local young people from refugee backgrounds.  This year has created even greater challenges for these young people and Love to Learn would like to ensure that every young person receives a Christmas gift this year.  We are looking for volunteers to help deliver the gifts between 16th and 23rd December (Santa hats optional). If you could spare an hour to help with these special deliveries please contact Annabel on [email protected]

If you’d like to give a gift to KLS’ Love to Learn education team please visit the KLS Website https://www.klsettlement.org.uk/donate/

And finally…
Thank you for your support over the months of the pandemic. We are quietly standing down the Angels, while supporting the people who have asked for our help. We couldn’t have done it without you.

If you have any ideas about how to continue to build community in Battersea in the months ahead, please let us know, by emailing [email protected]

We hope you have a very happy Christmas and a much happier 2021!

Best wishes,

Simon
