Please help us raise £30,000 this Christmas

Dear Friends,

Our Christmas fundraising campaign is now open – whatever you donate will be DOUBLED thanks to the generosity of our match-funding partners: The Childhood Trust and Francis Holland School (who co-founded us 96 years ago!).

Double your donation: DONATE HERE.

1 in 3 children in Wandsworth are living in poverty. Covid-19 has created even greater challenges. Our Love to Learn programme offers essential educational, practical and emotional support to children and their families. Please can we ask you to give the gift of a brighter future to children in Wandsworth this Christmas. Whatever you donate will be doubled. When you give £10, we get £20. If you then add ‘Gift Aid’ we get £25 in total! We do hope you can support us. Thank you.

Amina and her children have been coming to KLS for more than six years. She attends our ESOL (English) classes to improve her English “so I can help my kids”; as well as maths classes as she adores times tables. She’s now better able to help her children with their homework! Amina’s 6 kids attend our Homework and GCSE Clubs, and the youngest, Fadwa, attended our creche before recently graduating to “big school” (primary school that is). It was the extra help we gave during lockdown that made all the difference to get them through it.

Let them tell you more about their lockdown experience in this short film:

Amina told us recently:

“Lockdown was quite hard when we started because I have a small home and I don’t know how to help my children how to learn at home. The children at secondary, they learn all day, and the primary, they called a lot and said ‘ do this, do that…’ . It was all too stressful. Soon my ESOL (English) teacher Fran showed me how to get onto zoom and use it for my Entry 3 English classes. I learned my English and maths class every week and I see all my friends and teacher in class every week. I took some assessments in online classes and passed my Entry 3 reading exam. I am really proud of myself.

The Love to Learn team gave us some laptops and we all started zooming and learning in online classrooms. Before that the (6) children had to share one laptop between them. Corona club was really fun on Zoom for the kids and they helped us with lots of things- advice, homework and clubs, and we are all happy.

I would like to ask you to support the Love to Learn team and KLS, because they support the community, working very hard with parents and children. This would help even more families like mine. New families who come to the country and come to KLS, they find support with housing and schools and homework clubs. It really helps.”

Our Love to Learn programme offers educational, practical and emotional support to young people and their families, through Homework Clubs, GCSE Study Groups, Mentoring and advice and casework. We’re raising money for our Love to Learn programme, which works to improve local refugee children’s education and helps them cope with the challenges of life during this pandemic.

You now have the opportunity to make a donation and have it doubled until next Tuesday 8th December. That’s one week to double your donation!!! Please make a donation now: DONATE HERE (and please add Gift Aid).

During the pandemic our support has been even more vital and we have continued to help families via online clubs, one-to-one phone calls, home visits, and a big summer programme of workshops and activities. We have also provided more than 150 laptops and tablets to our Love to Learn families enabling their children to do schoolwork at home online.

It’s been a challenging year for us all. We can’t wait to resume our face-to-face community services and fill the Centre with our members, staff and volunteers. We are very much looking forward to a brighter 2021.

Thank you, in advance, for giving the gift of a brighter future to so many local children!!!

Double your donation HERE now until 8th December. If you donate £25 to KLS, then our Christmas Challenge partners will match your donation with £25, which doubles your donation to £50! Don’t forget to Gift Aid to add an extra 25% on top of your donation.

Many thanks.

Please share this with your friends, family and anyone you can think of to help us to reach our target! Thank you!
