Spring Steps for KLS is now open

We’re asking our friends and supporters to count their steps and help us to reach 6 million steps in just one week.

It perhaps seems strange to be optimistically walking and enjoying the arrival of spring, with the news dominated by scenes of millions of Ukrainian refugees escaping into neighbouring countries in Europe, bringing home the reality of war and need for safe passage.

Battersea and Wandsworth have historically welcomed refugees from far and wide. At KLS we’ve worked with refugees for decades, offering refuge and a new home. We strongly believe that we should help those in crisis and hardship. We’ve seen how refugees quickly become involved in, and part of, our community. They are invaluable and give as much as they receive. Enriching our community, enriching Battersea.

So for this week, 11-18th March 2022, let’s join together as a community to help those in need get back on their feet.

How to count your Spring Steps
If you have the Strava App link it to your event page. You don’t need a fancy pedometer, just estimate your steps on how long you walk for.

*On average we take 100 steps every minute
*Walking 5,000 steps (2.5 miles) will take 45 mins
*Walking 10,000 steps (5 miles) will take 90 mins

1 million steps is about 500 miles. So, 6 million steps is 3,000 miles!

The benefits of a brisk walk
Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.

You do not have to walk for hours. A brisk 10-minute daily walk has lots of health benefits and counts towards your recommended 150 minutes of weekly exercise and this week you can help KLS as you walk.
