Thank you for making this summer one to remember

Our Director, Aaron, just wants to say…

…an absolutely massive THANK YOU to everyone who’s supported our ‘Champions for Children’ summer appeal. And to the Childhood Trust and Francis Holland School for providing the match funding.

Fatima told me recently why our summer programme is so special to her. “I love the summer with you. Sometimes I am so excited to see my friends I can’t sleep. If I didn’t go to somewhere with you (Love to Learn) I would just be near my house or inside being bored.” It’s her childlike sense of excitement and anticipation that I love. I can remember that feeling about summer too when I was a boy (yes, it was a long time ago I know!). That’s why your donation last week, towards our Summer ‘Champions for Children’ Appeal, makes such a difference. We can’t do this without you, so thank you.

I also spoke with Yasmin, who’s 8, and she told me what she got out of our Homework Club. “When I come to the Club first time I didn’t speak any English and I was scared I just wanted to be with my mum. But now I am waiting every day until I go to the Club because it feel fun and I have friends and people don’t mind my English”. To see Yasmin grow in confidence over the last year has been brilliant – a joy for our amazing staff and volunteer team, as well as her family. We’re hoping we can give her a fantastic summer, thanks to you.

Summer plans

We’ve have be able to make a few firmer plans for the Summer now that Lockdown is relaxing, including… taking small groups to Trinity Fields (a nearby playing field ), as well as local parks and into town; cooking projects (sending ingredients to children’s home and then cooking and eating together online); online music projects; family day trips to remember; we’re sending out art and activity packs to keep them busy; workshops of digital safety and wellbeing; socially distanced sports activities (as much as we’re allowed too) and more. It’s going to be fun and we’re looking forward to it.

Keep up-to-date

Thank you so much again for your help. We will send out a short report later in September to let everyone know what we’ve been up to over the summer. In the meantime, do follow us on social media (see below) and we’re posting weekly updates about what we’re up to here: www.klsettlement.org.uk/blog
