Come and work for a busy, much-loved community-based charity, that’s been working in the heart of Battersea, south London since 1924.

We’re looking for 4 new members of staff to join our Elders Team:

  • Love to Learn Team – Volunteer Coordinator
  • Love to Learn Team – Bilingual Education Caseworker (Somali or Tigrinya-English)
  • Elders Team – Community Development Officer (Age Well programme)
  • Elders Team – Lunch Club Cook

1. Volunteer Coordinator 

£27,500 per annum (+5% employer pension contributions)

Full time (35 hours/week)

Based at 108 Battersea High Street, London SW11 3HP (currently working from home)

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a well-established and successful education programme, called Love to Learn, which enables young people from a refugee background to overcome barriers to education so that they can thrive and reach their potential.

We’re looking for some with experience of motivating, supporting and encouraging volunteers. Your role will be to coordinate our Love to Learn team’s volunteers to improve the educational outcomes of the young people we work with.

2. Bi-Lingual Education Caseworker (Somali or Tigrinya-English)

£27,500 per annum (+5% employer pension contributions)

We are looking for someone with Somali or Tigrinya and English language skills (Amharic and or Arabic also desirable), experience of working with children, young people and families, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience of providing education information, advice and guidance is desirable. You will join a small team of caseworkers (including another Tigrinya speaker and a Somali speaker) in our Love to Learn education team.

2. Elders Team – Community Development Officer (Age Well programme) 

£27,500 (pro rata) (+5% employer pension contributions)

7 hours per week (flexible working possible)

1 year contract

Working across various venues in Battersea, based at KLS main offices, 108 Battersea High Street, London SW11 3HP, and working remotely during the pandemic. 

This is a new and exciting opportunity for an organisational development worker, with fundraising experience, to join our Elders team. The Age Well programme is being delivered in part by local community partners, some of whom are small and (un)funded. They will need additional capacity building support so that they can work with more older people in Battersea. You will have experience of working with charities and community organisations to develop their infrastructure and increase their skills and capacity including governance, strategy, funding, staffing and volunteers, communications and more.

3. Elders Team – Lunch Club Cook 

£10.85/hour (London Living Wage) 

12 hours a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday lunch times)

Based at 108 Battersea High Street, London SW11 3HP 

We’re looking for an experienced cook to cater for our Elders Lunch Clubs (3 days a week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). You will be a fantastic cook that has a caring side to be able to work with frail elders and our staff and volunteer team.

Volunteering opportunities

We rely on volunteers to run all of our services. If you’re interested in volunteering do come in for a chat or fill in the ‘contact us’ form.

  • mentoring for an hour a week to support a refugee young person
  • supporting one of our GCSE study groups that meet for 2 hours a week in Battersea
  • helping out at a Homework Club on a Wednesday or Thursday from 4.30pm-7.00pm
  • being an escort for older people on and off our minibus during the day Tuesday – Thursdays
  • supporting older people as a ‘Fone Friend’- a telephone befriender
