Everybody needs good neighbours, but would you climb a mountain for yours? How about three? Fortunately for KLS, a team from our local gym, Guts and Glory have taken on the Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for KLS’s Love to Learn education services.
In May, a team of eight local fitness enthusiasts will challenge themselves by climbing the UK’s highest peaks – Ben Nevis, Sca Fell Pike and Snowdon – in 24 hours. Not a trip for the faint of heart or feeble of thigh, they will be collected at Fort William at 5pm for the first climb of the day and then work their way down through the UK, snatching sleep in the van as they move from Scotland to England to Wales. We are sure the months of burpees, squats and kettlebell swings at the gym under the arches of the Cremorne railway bridge in Battersea will pay off for them all.
This isn’t the first time that the members of Guts and Glory gym have reached out to KLS – at Christmas, they fundraised for our Elders’ lunch and delivered Christmas gifts to our Love to Learn families. Community is very much part of the gym’s ethos, ‘As much as we want to be a successful, effective gym, what’s paramount is building a community for people of every fitness level’ and we are very grateful to have such kind (and healthy!) neighbours.
