December is always a special time for us. The place is full of laughter, joy and the festive spirit. Having cancelled Christmas last year we’re really, really, really looking forward to this year’s celebrations. We’ve got lots coming up now that we’re together again.
We kick off on 30th November with pupils from Francis Holland School going mad with the tinsel, putting up our tree and decorating our centre. From then on in all of our teams are celebrating by hosting lots of parties, trips and more. We’re also distributing hundreds of presents, kindly donated by our community partners, to our members and children from other local charities.
Children from Garden House School and members from KLS have created a Christmas card. Do pop in to stock up. They are now on sale at the KLS reception – a pack of 10 cards is £5.
When you’re doing your Christmas shopping online then please use The Co-op, Amazon Smile or Easyfundraising, as a small percentage comes our way.
Our Christmas Give Appeal launches at midday on 30 November. Any donation you make will be DOUBLED until 7 December. It will help us support even more children and young people to get ahead in their education. Please save the date, tell your friends and family and make a donation so that it can be doubled. We’ll send around the donation link when it opens next week.
We will be in full voice throughout December. There’s ‘Carols in the Square’ (Battersea Square that is) on 7 December at 6pm; and later that same evening at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square as the Battersea Choral Society kindly raise money for us at their annual carol service. On 10 December we’ll be back in Battersea Square singing more carols from 2.30-7.00pm. Come and join us for a bit of fun, some mulled wine and a mince pie or two.
Our elders, ESOL and Love to Learn community services love being back in-person with our members. It’s fantastic to see everyone again. We held a memorial service on 11th November to commemorate those we lost over the pandemic. We celebrated Trustee Week and achieved a Grade 2 ‘Good’ from a recent Ofsted inspection. Catch up on all KLS’ news at our blog.
It’s been a busy few months for our community partnerships now that we can finally collaborate in-person on joint projects and invite people into KLS. Read more about our partnerships with local schools and businesses here, and how you could get involved.
Please do drop in over the coming month and help us celebrate being together again.
Aaron Barbour
KLS Director
P.S. From 30 November to 7 December you can DOUBLE YOUR DONATION to support our education work with young people. We’ll send out the donation link next week.
